Tell Us #13- Call it a bold statement but we’d argue that New York City by way of Toronto illustrator Dennis Chow is at the forefront of today’s punk-driven art movement. While artists like Raymond Pettibon, Pushead and Gary Panter were trailblazers, we’d argue that the torch has rightfully been passed on to Chow; the most bad ass, talented motherfucker of the new breed. Chow’s graphic ‘ink on paper’ works are littered with cartoon characters gone crazy, homages to satan and an overall appreciation for anarchy. Basically, what’s not to love? Chow has been commissioned by brands like Nike and Mishka (he created that ‘Mishka Death Adders Bear’ you see everywhere), created the album cover for DFA1979’s remix album and has even dropped hot-as-shit solo art exhibitions. In addition, he has wicked hair (not kidding) and an infectious smile (sorry ladies, he’s married). Not only are we pumped to have Chow participate in this week’s installment of Tell Us (where we ask peers about their current fixations) but he was kind enough to create an exclusive, never-before seen piece for the feature. What a fucking darling, right? The Tourist (TT)- Some photographers whose work you’re currently into? Dennis Chow (DC)- Weegee, Judy Lynn, Don Pyle and Joel Lee.
